Raquel Rodriguez

with Swatkins & Nick Campbell

LA nati Raquel Rodriguez is a Mexican-American R&B/soul singer who draws inspiration from the greats of our time; Prince, Michael Jackson, Chaka Khan, D’Angelo and Amy Winehouse. Raquel is the true embodiment of the multi-cultural millennial, fusing the subcultures of the last 30 years of LA style with her nostalgic, yet current, brand of music.

Raquel has shared the stage with such luminaries as Gwen Stefani and Anderson .Paak, and has opened for artists such as PJ Morton, Snoop Dogg, Lizzo, Fantasia, Moonchild and more. Her studio release of ‘The 310’ inspired by the culture of her native Los Angeles, includes several songs that captured ears around the world, most notably, the single, “Mile High.” The single, with over 3.5 million streams, quickly gained popularity on Spotify and Apple Music, and continues to grow on all digital platforms. Another ode to Los Angeles’ culture is Raquel’s project “Sunday’s Best” which features low rider classics from The Stylistics, Bloodstone and more.

Raquel’s debut album “Sweet Side” has over 10 million streams and includes exciting collaborations with artists and producers such as MXXWLL, Ill Camille, Matt Johnson (Jamiroquai), Amber Navran (Moonchild), Steve Swatkins (Allen Stone), Nigel Hall (Lettuce), DUX, Bubbs and many more!

Steve Watkins (Swatkins) is a ginger-bearded smiley keyboard guy. His music generally sounds like a funky good time. This exceedingly positive individual is a songwriter, producer, singer, multi-instrumentalist, and a master of the talkbox, an old-school analog effect using his larynx and a vinyl tube to shape the sound of his keyboard. Think of the funky robot voice from “California Love” or the hair-raising harmony intro to “24 Karat Magic.” Now picture a throwback dance party with a killer live band playing the deepest grooves imaginable, and you’ve got a taste of what The Positive Agenda is all about. The all-star band personnel have individually toured with Stevie Wonder, Los Lobos, Allen Stone, kd lang, Ghost-Note, and more.

Nick Campbell plays the electric bass. He was born and raised in Los Angeles and like most members of the city’s bountiful music scene he spent the majority of his youth in the annals of music education. It was here that Campbell developed his unique penchant for superimposing triadic patterns over static harmony (commonly referred to as “getting modal”).

You may have seen him playing bass as a sideman with (but not limited to): Pomplamoose, Scary Pockets, Charlie Puth, Vulfpeck, Meghan Trainor, Raquel Rodriguez, Nigel Hall, Josh Smith, Kirk Fletcher, Theo Katzman, Michael Mayo and Moonchild and as a leader (or co-leader) with the bands: Shrek Is Love and Bear Attack.

He currently writes music under the name “Nick Campbell Destroys.” Some people think that his music sounds like a deranged amalgam of Industrial Jazz-Funk and too many tri-tone substitutions, but he thinks it just sounds like Nihilism. Nick released his debut album "Art" on December 9th, 2022, a ten track ultra funky modal blast about meaninglessness in the face of suffering but in a fun way. Also, plz respect his art.
