True Loves with Michael Miller (fka Franky Fingertips) & DJ Clifton at Resident - RESCHEDULED FROM MARCH 21st

Listening to the abundant sounds of the Seattle-based funk & soul group True Loves is like walking down a favorite neighborhood street, slapping five with friends, checking up with clerks in their stores, admiring your dark sun-glassed face in their windows, ducking under flowerpots and smelling the familiar smells of your most cherished locale.

The band is its own block party. What began in 2014 as a jam session between three of the city’s best - pocket-perfect drummer David McGraw, intoxicating bassist Bryant Moore, and otherworldly guitarist Jimmy James - has since blossomed into a global force that now features percussionist Iván Galvez and four horn players: trombonists Jason Cressey and Greg Kramer, and saxophonists Gordon Brown and Skerik. Together, the group’s live performances have garnered them much acclaim and millions of streams on YouTube.

In 2017, True Loves recorded their debut instrumental LP, Famous Last Words, which received worldwide adoration and earned them spots at coveted festivals. In 2021, the group released their sophomore album, Sunday Afternoon.

DJ Clifton

DJ Clifton Weaver (The Soul Shakedown Party), a.k.a. DJ Soft Touch, is tight behind the turntables in more ways than one. A sharp dresser with impeccable selections, Clifton has showcased his singular style as a DJ at Southern California’s biggest parties for over a decade and remains one of the most sought-after selectors in California nightlife.

Clifton’s deep roots in Los Angeles’ soul community and superb taste in everything from funk to Bollywood, Afrobeat to ‘60s go-go and Britpop, have landed him gigs opening for Daptone Records legends such as Charles Bradley at The Getty, and setting the scene for Mayer Hawthorne, Adrian Younge, and Stones Throw’s Peanut Butter Wolf. As a member of Love Grenades, Clifton opened for Janelle Monae and his current band, The Mercury Wheel, backed by Nolan Porter.

Raised in Long Beach and currently a resident of Los Angeles County with an ever-growing record collection, Clifton heeded the call of the wheels of steel when one of his bands needed an opener. He’s since become a full-time DJ with regular gigs at the Standard Hotel, Broken Shaker, and the Ace Hotel in downtown Los Angeles. You’ll occasionally find him behind the decks at the Ace Hotel and Truss & Twine, both in Palm Springs. Clifton also spent 11 years working crowds of phenomenal dancers at L.A.’s biggest soul and raw funk dance party, Funky Sole.
