Myka 9, Awol One with Gel Roc + The Cloaks & Sahtyre Live at Resident

Originally known as Microphone Mike, Myka 9 is recognized as one of the most stylistically advanced rappers in the 90's. His first real break was in the 1980's when he received the opportunity to be a lyrical ghost writer on NWA's first compilation, titled 'NWA and The Posse.' He then had the opportunity to collaborate with major acts such as The Wailers, Carmen Carter, The Last Poets, and co-founded the legendary hip-hop group, Freestyle Fellowship. Today, Myka champions his often-imitated, never-duplicated lyrical style around the world. He is known for his rapid-fire, jazz-influenced, melodic rapping, and often incorporates singing and occasional scatting into his songs. Myka has said of his style, "My rhymes take the direction of a jazz trumpet or sax solo, like Miles or Trane, if I was to rhyme in the same meter as those notes...that's my concept."

Los Angeles California born, Rapper and Illustrator, Tony "Awol One" Martin is rumored to be over one thousand years old and every single one of those years can be heard within the cracks of his voice and lyrics. One may call him a crude poet, a drunken rambler or a melodic voice for slackers but nobody can deny that he's maintained an uncompromising level of intelligence, honesty, melody, dark humor and originality.

Southern California native, Gel Roc (pronounced with a hard “G” like graffiti not like George Bush), is a Los Angeles based emcee primarily known for his abrasive lyrics along side his EX2 (E Times Two) cohorts. However, as a solo artist, he explores the personal aspects of his life; tapping into a broader array of topics that relate to his audience. A veteran street artist from the Whittier/L.A. based “Life Seen Differently” crue, Gel’s roots stem from the old school b-boy, graffiti, and hip hop culture of the 80’s & 90’s, which is still apparent in his works today.

Born September 17, 1987 and raised throughout Los Angeles, CA, Cassidy Howell (also known as Sahtyre) embodies a unique, diverse character which shines brilliantly through his art. A precocious young child, his mother enrolled him into kindergarten at only three years old by forging a fake birth certificate to fool school administrators. His childhood lacked structure as his mother’s ongoing addiction problems led him and his siblings to move constantly around different neighborhoods from Los Angeles County to the Inland Empire. Thus, he would find his life in a constant state of flux.Soon, he found himself sneaking out of the house in the middle of the night to attend the legendary open mic workshop, Project Blowed. It was there he won respect from his elders by being one of the youngest rappers, at the mere age of 14, to compete and win battles; a genuine honor considering the incredible caliber of talent that came through those open mics.Following the death of his biological father, the incarceration of his brother’s father (a man he considered his true father figure) and an unsuccessful bid at Cal State University San Bernardino in which he was kicked off campus for “excessive noise and violating school substance policy,” Cassidy found himself at a crossroads. He decided it was time to pursue his dreams.A voracious lover of music, Sahtyre credits the development of his laid back yet quick witted style on a diverse set of influences. He credits everybody from “Old Eminem”, Snoop and Redman to underground legends like Thirstin Howl III and the Outsidaz as some of his most powerful influences. Yet, his truest inspirations are musicians that transcend the normal boundaries of hip hop including legendary rock stars Jimi Hendrix, John Frusciante and Kurt Cobain and timeless soul musicians like James Brown and Marvin Gaye.
