The Shivas and Cool Ghouls, Death Bells and Miserable, Voyager Institute, Green Slime, Mixed Feelings feat. Leven Kali

Oh hey there August! Lookin’ good Leos. The sun is shining, the cocktails are flowing, and your once super embarrassing sunburn has faded. There’s never been a better time to embrace that summer feeling, friends.

Tonight we’ve got Portland’s finest stopping by — come kick it this evening with The Shivas, plus SF pals Cool Ghouls! Tomorrow we’ll be hanging with Death Bells and Miserable on the second stop of their North American tour, not to mention the added bonus of Fearing. Get to know Miserable and get psyched to treat this line-up a good LA time.

‘Tis the season for anniversary celebrations at Resident and this weekend is teeming with them. First up is Voyager Institute’s 1 year this Saturday afternoon! Your always free and fun class on books, movies, and music, Voyager Institute is your dream combination of a Ted Talk and variety show, packaged with the same spirit as “The Moth.” Topics this Saturday include Technicolor Film and Fashion of the ’30s, The Saddest Songs of All Time, and The History of Working Girls on Television and very special Q&A with Scott Thompson from The Kids in the Hall. Expand your mind!

We’ll also be celebrating another anniversary that night at Green Slime, LA’s 60s dance-craze party. Come shake it with legendary DJ Jonathan Toubin and join us in celebrating 4 years of Green Slime at its new location! Closing out the anniversary weekend is a very special edition of Mixed Feelings feat. Leven Kali, Bahari, Baby Rose, and more. We’re already getting in the mood with this soulful track from Baby Rose, if you need some further motivation to pop by this free fiesta.

We’ve been looking forward to Tuesday for a couple of months now and we can’t wait to finally host Dylan Carlson of Earth on our stage. True blue fans will dig this glimpse inside Dylan’s mind before the show. Don’t forget one of our very favorite musicians Mary Lattimore rounds out the night!

As you fill up your August calendar, make sure to take note of a special event your Resident family is bringing to Pico Union! We’re delighted to share Drew McDowell with you at one of the most magical locations for a live show. You know Drew as a Dais Records star and New Yorker, not to mention as a former member of Coil, Psychic TV, and The Poems. If you sit this one out, guaranteed major FOMO will ensue. Do yourself a favor and be apart of it.

A few more surprises for the weeks ahead… We just added Root Down next Thursday 8/9, so stop by and shake it to the best hip hop, funk, classic breaks, vintage Latin, and Jamaican sounds! In the same dancefloor spirit, we are excited to announce throwback party connoisseur DJ Paul V is hosting Stomp! Funk + Disco Party on Friday 9/7. Dress up and show us what your mama gave ya. One more save the date for you serious planners — we’d just added Yndi Halda visiting us all the way from the UK this fall on 11/15. Many more announcements coming soon!

Summer ain’t over ‘til it’s over. Let the August festivities begin!
